Anvil – Pounding the Past Finnish Tour with Killer (BE) + support

Legendary Anvil embark on a special Finnish tour in December! Focusing on their first three albums, this special run brings the ’80s to Sawohouse in Kuopio on December 3. Canadian band Anvil, who took their first steps as early as 1978 and have since become legendary, will come to Finland for a special tour in December. The Finnish dates are part of the wider Pounding the Past tour, on which the band focuses on songs from their first three albums. Anvil began its recording career with the 1981 album Hard’N’Heavy, and, in keeping with the spirit of the times, albums came out at a rate of one per year. Their debut and the studio albums that followed, Metal On Metal (1982) and Forged in Fire (1983), brought the band to the attention of metal fans beyond Canada—including future megastars. Metallica, for example, has openly said that Anvil was one of the band’s influences in its early days. Anvil has released records throughout its career, and its journey in the music business has been eventful, to say the least. Despite changing musical trends sometimes throwing a wrench in the works, the band has persevered, and Anvil’s popularity enjoyed a complete resurgence following the 2009 release of Anvil, the real-life Spinal Tap documentary film. Directed by Sacha Gervasi, the documentary became an international sensation and showed how tenaciously Steve “Lips” Kudlow, Robb Reiner and Chris Robertson held on—and continue to hold on—to their dream. A European tour centred on the first three albums has been in the works for a long time, and Anvil will finally get to make it happen. “The timing for focusing on songs from the first three albums couldn’t be better. We’re in that rare window between new albums, so we have time for this, and we’ve been given the freedom to celebrate the band’s past too,” says Anvil. “We’re heading to Germany in September to record our 21st album, after which it will be possible to continue the Pounding the Past tour in Europe right through to December. Our friends from Belgium, KILLER, will be joining us.”
