Modem + Sokar

An evening of electronic music at Maxim! Modem is a Helsinki-based synth-pop duo formed by Tytti Roto and Ville Valavuo. After spending many years active in Finland’s punk and indie underground, the musicians found common ground in their interest in electronic pop music and the synthetic soundscapes of the 1980s, inspiring them to start a new band. In the past few years, Modem has performed regularly at Finnish clubs and the country’s largest festivals (including Flow Festival, Sideways and Ruisrock), and toured Central Europe and the Nordic countries.

Sokar is an electropop duo from Tampere, whose sound creates a world where euphoria and emotional fragility meet. The band’s music combines analogue synthesizers, breakbeat influences, diary-like lyrics and catchy pop melodies, moving along the boundary between hopefulness and melancholy. YleX has described Sokar’s music as one of the fresh and bold new sounds in this year’s Finnish pop scene. The project is led by musician-producer Henri Tuunanen (Radio Supernova, Hissun Kissun) and singer-producer Anki Valkamo.
