Through the Screen

Tahkon Talviteatteri presents the comedy *Ruudun takaa* during the 2026–2027 season. Performances take place in the Maisemasali at Break Sokos Hotel Tahko from 13 November 2026 to 12 March 2027.

*Ruudun takaa* is a breathlessly fast-paced, cheerfully irreverent and remarkably topical comedy about Finnish reality TV, everyday life and relationships colliding, resulting in a fireworks-paced parody of today’s television landscape. Maija and Matti are settling in for an ordinary evening at home on their sofa—but any semblance of normality quickly vanishes as a succession of increasingly absurd reality-show formats floods the screen. The audience is taken through the full schedule of an imaginary TV channel, from romantic dating shows and food analytics to extreme travel, retreats and quintessentially Finnish survival stories. Every encounter, new series and expert is a delicious caricature of what happens when the logic of entertainment meets the Finnish mindset.

The play asks, with gentle but pointed wit: What happens when television no longer just entertains, but changes everyday life? Ultimately, the reality of Maija and Matti’s home collides so forcefully with the world of television that the boundary between performances and life begins to melt away—recognisably, warmly and utterly absurdly.

The production is by Siilinjärven Teatteri. The play was written by Maija Rissanen and Mikko Laitinen. It is directed by theatre director and Master of Theatre Arts (TeM) Sanna Saarela.
