An Evening with Marzi Nyman

The Kuopio City Orchestra’s concert series introducing the artists behind the music continues in the company of Marzi Nyman. Marzi Nyman is an all-rounder in Finnish music—a virtuoso guitarist, composer and performer whose energetic playing and boundless creativity make every concert an experience. His music moves effortlessly from pop to jazz, rock to classical, always with a sense of surprise and great heart. Marzi is a prime example of musicianship that pays no heed to boundaries and has brought new vitality to Finnish rhythm music. The concert showcases different facets of Marzi’s musicianship as a guitarist and conductor, as well as a composer and arranger. The evening’s guest soloist, trumpeter Jukka Eskola, one of Finland’s leading musicians, says of Marzi’s trumpet concerto: “From a trumpet player’s perspective, Marzi Nyman’s trumpet concerto is an extremely fascinating work. It contains rhythmic energy and calmer, lingering moments, clear and beautiful tones, virtuosic runs and improvisational passages. These are precisely the elements characteristic of the trumpet: fiery, bright power, but also a sensitive and gentle soundscape.” Between pieces, Nyman will be interviewed by composer and conductor Atso Almila.
