Limestone and Silk Thread is a journey into the freedom of imagination and the layers of history. The works in the concert are united by the composers’ desire to peer into the past and discover something entirely new and free. In works by Ernő Dohnányi and Benjamin Britten, the traditional march rhythm provides the musical framework. In Dohnányi’s work, it brings the Serenade to life with classical brilliance, while in Britten’s Phantasy Quartet it emerges from silence, creating the illusion of a fantasy improvised in the moment. Bohuslav Martinů and Caroline Shaw, meanwhile, turn their attention to Renaissance and early music forms. Martinů’s Madrigals give the violin and viola the soul of an airy, polyphonic choir. Shaw’s Limestone & Felt plays with acoustic contrasts: the hard, resonant pizzicato surfaces of limestone and the soft, lingering chords of felt, whispering secrets from centuries past.
Programme:
Bohuslav Martinů: Three Madrigals for violin and viola, 1st movement, Poco Allegro

Caroline Shaw: Limestone & Felt
Ernő Dohnányi: Serenade Op. 10

WeeGee Live x Tapiola Sinfonietta is a collaboration launched in autumn 2025, in which musicians from Tapiola Sinfonietta bring chamber music concerts they have planned themselves to venues outside the walls of Tapiolasali. The series features three concerts during the 2026–2027 season, each reflecting its planners in theme and content. The concerts are one-hour performances with no intermission. Before the concert, visitors can explore WeeGee’s exhibitions at a discounted rate with a concert ticket (€16). Restaurant Delicatessen is open before the concert.
