Laura Rostoka: “Among Fragments” | Sigulda New Castle

From 14 November 2026 to 10 January 2027, the art salon at Sigulda New Castle will host “Among Fragments,” a solo exhibition by glass artist Laura Rostoka. The exhibition offers a glimpse into more than 25 years of her creative work, revealing the diversity of glass as a material and the continuity of her artistic exploration.

“Among Fragments” brings together works from different periods of the artist’s practice, forming a multilayered story about her relationship with the material, creative exploration and the accumulation of experience. Rather than following a chronological arrangement or a unified thematic structure, the exhibition allows the works to interact, revealing unexpected connections between forms, colours and ideas.

“Twenty-five years of working with glass have not been a straight, pre-planned path. They have taken shape from separate fragments, moments, ideas, explorations and returns to the material,” the artist says of the exhibition’s concept.

The title “Among Fragments” refers both to the physical properties of glass and to the fragmentary nature of the creative process. Individual works, experiences and experiments come together in a whole where different times, forms, colours and sensations meet. In the artist’s hands, glass becomes a medium for interpreting natural motifs, abstract compositions and aesthetic impulses, with particular attention to the material’s possibilities and its transformation through reuse.

Laura Rostoka is a glass artist and art educator. Born and raised in Cēsis, she graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia in 2007 with a master’s degree in art. Since 2002, she has lived and worked in Sigulda Municipality. Alongside her independent creative practice, art education is an important part of her professional work. She has worked in education for thirteen years and currently serves as Deputy Director for Education in the Art Department at Sigulda School of Arts “Baltais flīģelis,” where she also teaches students glassworking and composition. Her teaching and individual artistic practice exist side by side, allowing her to return continually to exploring glass and to new creative experiments.

“Among Fragments” invites visitors into the artist’s creative world, where each work is a self-contained whole and, at the same time, part of a broader story that is still unfolding.
