Teise Küla Teater: The Bear

Anton Chekhov’s one-act play “The Bear”
Director: Juhan Kubu

The young widow Jelena Popova (Pille Smirnova) is so devoted to her mourning that the curtains remain closed and visitors are left at the door. Until Mr. Smirnov (Kalev Pallon) bursts in—a man whose manners resemble those of a wild beast woken from hibernation. He needs money. Now. And he has no intention of leaving. What follows is a clash between two stubborn characters, with insults flying like woodchips when trees are felled in the forest. The old servant Luka (Reino Allipere) is completely helpless. Even the characters themselves don’t know what will happen next.

The performance has no interval and lasts just under 1 hour. Tickets are €12 in advance and €15 at the venue, available half an hour before the performance begins.
