In the former home of two great cultural figures, Johann Voldemar Jannsen (1819–1890) and Lydia Koidula (1843–1886), the Koidula Museum’s permanent exhibition presents their lives and work in the context of the Estonian national awakening. The house is also of cultural-historical significance as a school for country people and the editorial office of the weekly newspaper Perno Postimees. The permanent exhibition is complemented by a temporary exhibition hall on the museum’s second floor, where visitors can also view a retrospective of Koidula productions and television programmes and read the newspapers Postimees and Pärnu Postimees. The Koidula Museum house includes a large garden behind it, which is only a small part of the former Ülejõe school farm’s grounds. The garden features an exploratory learning trail for young Lydia, or Lolla, and an outdoor stage. Art and history exhibitions are held year-round in the gallery beside the outdoor stage.
