Consent

Two members of a group of lawyer friends find themselves working on the same court case, one as prosecutor and the other as defence counsel. Whether justice prevails in court is not really for either of them to decide, and it is easy to maintain a detached professional attitude when dissecting other people’s lives. But the case spills over into their personal lives, where hidden tensions surface and the line between victim and perpetrator is no longer as clear as it might seem. Written in 2017 by British playwright and director Nina Raine, *Consent* is a contemporary relationship drama whose lifelike dialogue pits different parties’ interpretations against one another, raising questions about whether true justice is possible.
