Child psychologist Merike Kuivits has worked with children and young people from kindergarten through higher education, including at a Waldorf school and a hobby school. In this training, she explores child development through the lens of her own experience, connecting it with newer knowledge about brain development. The focus is on children’s developmental needs during the preschool years. Participants will explore the ages at which play and the world of fairy tales are especially important to children. They will discuss how knowledge of brain development can help support children’s development and inform the choice of age-appropriate teaching methods. The training is intended for anyone who wants to better understand and support children during the sensitive ages of 2–7. Topics: - Stages and pace of child development - The role of attachment in human development - The different functions of the brain’s hemispheres - Play as a developmental need - Fairy tales and mental imagery - Planning age-appropriate teaching.
