They say old love never fades, but the new film by German director Andreas Dresen (“From Hilde, with Love”) puts that claim to the test. Over the decades, all sorts of things accumulate in a marriage: habits and disappointments, old affairs and new resentments, memories of missed opportunities, and little wounds that eventually people no longer even try to heal, because they have long since become part of their shared history. Lore (Dagmar Manzel) and Harry (Joachim Król) have been married for almost 40 years and have found themselves in a very similar situation. They know that love does not necessarily grow stronger simply because it has lasted. Lore fears that she is gradually fading away beside Harry, and that life is too predictable and peaceful. He, on the other hand, longs for precisely that peace and stability. But they agree on one thing: their daughter has had no luck in love. Now she is planning to marry for the third time, this time to a wealthy industrialist who is almost the same age as Harry. The news shakes up the couple’s stagnant daily routine and also brings changes to their relationship. Director Andreas Dresen and screenwriter Laila Stieler (“Gundermann,” “From Hilde, with Love”) continue their successful collaboration with their ninth film. “Still Love” is at once tragicomic, sharp, carefree and tender. Just as a good love story should be. Read more.
