Hair Braid

The interdisciplinary festival Hullunud Tartu has chosen “Forms” as its subtitle this year. To mark the occasion, we invite you to the poetry film screening “Hair Braid”, featuring works by Estonian and international artists and a discussion of how the poetry film genre brings together creators who work with different forms. Sirel Heinloo will also present her poetry film “Hair Braid” (2026), recently selected for the Mexican poetry and art film festival Fotogenia and screened in several places across South and North America. Before the screening, at 17:50, Sirel Heinloo will give an introduction for those interested. The film evening begins at 18:00 with Madli Lääne’s “Yes!” (2024), based on a text by Joonas Veelmaa, followed by a captivating and diverse selection of films by the award-winning Dutch-British poetry filmmaker HELMIE STIL, whose films have screened at the same European festivals as “Yes!”. We will also see Stil’s most recent film, “Marinating”. The selection was curated by Sirel Heinloo and is organised by Eesti Lavaluule MTÜ in collaboration with Hullunud Tartu. After the screening, you can continue together to the Hullunud Tartu masked ball at Urve café (Puiestee 73a), where masks featuring writers’ faces are recommended to add a touch of mystery. Read more
