On 28 November, from 13:00 to 15:30, the workshop “Sashiko-inspired visible mending” will take place at the Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design as part of the public programme for the exhibition “Contemporary Japanese Design.” Participants will learn to mend holes in their clothes, decorate stains or reinforce worn areas using various sashiko stitches. Alongside the hands-on activity, we’ll talk about the stories behind clothes and rewrite the story of an item as we mend it. Materials and tools will be provided. If possible, participants are asked to bring a garment with a hole, worn area or stain—for example, a blouse, trousers, shirt, jeans or T-shirt. The workshop is led by Marta Konovalov, a designer-researcher, craftivist and lecturer who focuses on mending and regenerative textile design. Young people and adults are welcome.
