What are counting rhymes, and how did they originate, spread, and change across different languages? At the ERM Kindred Peoples Club, Mirjami Sipilä introduces counting rhymes from Finland, Estonia, and the Livonian Coast, and explores their connections to counting and onomatopoeia. The talk is based on her 2026 master’s thesis, defended at the University of Turku, which examines counting rhymes from the perspectives of folklore studies and linguistics.
