Evelīna Sumeliusa-Lindbloma: Piano Music of the Early 20th Century

On 27 November this year at 18:00, Finnish pianist Evelīna Sumeliusa-Lindbloma, resident artist for the 19th concert season of the orchestra “Daugavpils Sinfonietta”, will perform the solo recital “Piano Music of the Early 20th Century” at the Vienības nams Concert Hall (Rīgas iela 22a). In her solo piano recital, Finnish pianist and doctor Evelīna Sumeliusa-Lindbloma explores the stylistic diversity of classical music from 1910 to 1925, revealing the variety of early 20th-century music, from national Romanticism to early modernism. The programme will include works by Jāzeps Vītols, Arthur Honegger, Anton Webern, Igor Stravinsky, Jean Sibelius and Darius Milhaud.

Doctor of Music Evelīna Sumeliusa-Lindbloma is active in classical music as a pianist and teacher, and in academia as a lecturer, reviewer, co-editor and jury member. Her career as a pianist includes extensive international experience in competitions, recording, solo concerts and premieres of technically and artistically challenging new works. Sumeliusa-Lindbloma has also presented papers at international conferences on musicology, artistic research and piano pedagogy.

At the Sibelius Academy, part of the University of the Arts Helsinki, Sumelius-Lindblom serves on the artistic jury for doctoral dissertation examinations in the Doctoral Programme and Research Centre, and also works as a part-time teacher. She is also a guest lecturer at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and a piano teacher at the Porvoo Region Music Institute.

In October 2025, Sumeliusa-Lindbloma was announced as the resident artist of “Daugavpils Sinfonietta” for the 2026–2027 concert season. The residency programme will give special attention to piano concertos of the Viennese Classical period. In May 2027, she will perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 as soloist.
