NEOCLASSICS
Organ, Gongs and Soprano
Year-End Concert
30 December 2026 at 19:00
Tartu Jaani kirik
In the final days of the year, when time seems to slow down, we invite you on a special musical journey where the powerful sound of the organ meets the deep vibrations of gongs and the captivating voice of a soprano.
The concert features works by outstanding composers of our time: Philip Glass, Arvo Pärt, Max Richter, Hans Zimmer, Sigur Ros, Ólafur Arnalds, Vangelis and Ludovico Einaudi. Their music brings together the clarity of minimalism, the beauty of neoclassicism and profound emotional expression.
The organ’s majestic sound fills the church, the gongs add new timbres and spaciousness to the music, and the soprano’s voice brings human warmth and soulfulness. This concert brings contemporary composition together with the centuries-old tradition and unique acoustics of the church, offering a chance to experience familiar works in a fresh and captivating sound world.
The end of the year is a time to pause, look back on what has passed and make room for what is new. Let this music accompany us across the threshold of the new year—with gratitude, peace and renewed inspiration.
PERFORMERS
Tiia Tenno — organ
An acclaimed Estonian organist who has worked as organist and choirmaster at Tallinn Jaani kirik since 1996.
Anna Dotsenko (NUANN), Finland — soprano
A singer and vocal coach whose captivating voice combines expressiveness, sensitivity and masterful bel canto technique.
Lilia Märtmaa and Deniss Vinogradov — gongs
Founders of HelideLab at the Tervendavate Helide Keskus, musicians and multi-instrumentalists, and sound therapists. Their work brings together the rich timbres of different instruments and improvisational musical expression.
THE SOUND OF GONGS
A gong is a percussion instrument whose sound is created by the vibration of the instrument itself. Its tone can be delicate and barely audible, or spacious and powerful. Different playing techniques make it possible to create rich timbres and slowly changing soundscapes.
In this concert programme, the gongs’ interludes broaden the musical whole, inviting listeners to notice the birth, transformation and fading of sounds, as well as the silence between them.
