The event is part of the “University Visits the Academy” series. Professor Ester Oras discusses who lived in the lands of Estonia before written records began and how much we have in common with them. “Geographically and culturally, we are on the periphery, especially from a Western European perspective, but that makes us unique—we are a little quirky. We are also situated between East and West, which means that in different periods we have had contacts with both, creating a distinctive synergy. We are also part of the Viking Age world, which is why we have an abundance of coins: the Viking trade route to Byzantium ran through here.” Come and listen. Places are limited.
