40 Days of Rain

40 Days of Rain
A dark comedy on antisemitism – and the lack of it – in Finland.
Due to the themes and content of the performance, we recommend the play for ages 14 and above. Younger audience members may attend with a parent or guardian.
Antisemitism remains a serious problem in Finland today. 40 Days of Rain is a collection of scenes drawn from the real experiences of Jews in Finland, exploring the absurdity and tragedy of uncomfortable moments where prejudice surfaces: splitting a bill, chatting with a neighbour, going about ordinary life. What happens when you act on assumptions you didn't know you had? The performance could not be more timely.
40 Days of Rain is a performance developed from the play Juuta-Juutalainen, written by Emma Kalmár, Panni Puskás, and András Vinnai. It draws on interviews conducted as part of the Åbo Akademi University project Antisemitism Undermining Democracy, commissioned in Hungary by Gólem Theatre. The performance was created by a group of curious, brave teenagers willing to explore this societal phenomenon firsthand.
The project is funded by Koneen Säätiö and the Polin Institute, and forms part of the PhD research of Nóri Varga.
