Magnus Kirt grows up with his father’s teaching that hard work always beats talent and that work well done is eventually rewarded. Together, they dream of Olympic gold, but then his father dies unexpectedly. The world’s top is still far away. A childhood friend steps in beside Magnus. He knows nothing about javelin throwing, but they are bound by a promise to see through what they started. Years of work begin to pay off. Magnus throws over 90 metres and becomes the world’s number one. At the World Championships in Doha, the title is just one throw away when, on his penultimate attempt, Magnus dislocates his shoulder. The silver medal marks the start of a very different contest. Surgeries, recovery and ever more injuries make the Olympic dream seem increasingly distant, but Magnus responds to every setback by working even harder. Just as his father taught him. What you start, you must see through to the end. But when the work brings no reward, not only his career but the entire belief on which he has built his life is called into question. What does a comeback mean when you can never return to the way you were?
