On Friday, 6 November at 17:00, the refreshed cultural history exhibition will open at Jaunbūves kultūrtelpa. It is dedicated to Daugavpils’s outstanding cultural figures and their contributions to the development of theatre, cinema, literature, painting and music. The exhibition brings together information about notable cultural figures who were born in Daugavpils or whose lives and work are closely connected with the city. Visitors can learn about these figures through portraits and life stories that reflect their contributions to Latvian and world culture.
The exhibition includes information about actor and director Solomon Mikhoels, painter Mark Rothko, writer Leonid Dobychin, composer Oskars Stroks and other notable figures whose creative legacy is highly significant. During the exhibition’s renewal, information about familiar cultural figures was updated, and new names and facts were added. A special place is also given to artist Pjotrs Hudobčonoks, whose paintings can be seen at Jaunbūves kultūrtelpa.
The refreshed exhibition offers a broader insight into Daugavpils’s cultural life and diverse artistic heritage. At the opening event, the DVPI “Daugavpils Kultūras pils” National Cultures Centre groups “Vdohnovenije” and “Slavjanka” will perform a tango by Oskars Stroks. Visitors can explore the refreshed exhibition and enjoy music that will offer a vivid sense of the diversity of Daugavpils’s cultural heritage. Admission is free.
Please note that filming and photography will take place during the event for publicity and historical purposes.
