A 45-year-old man, parent, ex-spouse, addict, member of the Estonian Defence League, money fool, technophobe... When Märt put together his first stand-up show, “40”, at the age of 40 and toured Estonia successfully with its honest, personal material (and briefly abroad), he thought he might give it another go at 50. But here we are: Märt Avandi’s stand-up “45” is a reality. It’s surprising how much can happen in five years—even if you think you’re experienced, have seen it all, and would like to think you’re a sensible person. You might have expected everything inside and around you to get calmer and calmer. It doesn’t. Fortunately, the desire to look at life with humour hasn’t gone away. Nor has the desire to analyse your vices, worries and mistakes with complete honesty. Because if anything is worth laughing at, it’s yourself.
On stage: Märt Avandi
Text: Märt Avandi, Paul Piik
Märt’s new stand-up show “45” premieres on 15 October at Fotografiska and aims to reach all the major cities and county centres before its protagonist turns 46.
