On 5 November at 17:30, as part of the accompanying programme for Ingūna Liepa’s exhibition “Searching for the Invisible,” the Rothko Museum will host the opening of the exhibition catalogue and a meeting with the artist. Ingūna Liepa’s paintings are abstract: they do not depict a particular place, figure or event, but evoke feelings. Mysterious, indistinct forms briefly emerge from layers of colour, resembling landscapes, dreams, splashes of water, nebulae or the shimmer of rain, only to recede into shadow again the next moment. Colour shapes the emotional register of the works. Light blue, violet, turquoise, muted pink, warm peach and pale green blend into restrained harmonies, while subtle gradations and gentle transitions between clarity and pallor make the works seem almost to radiate light. In the catalogue essay, exhibition curator Farida Zaletilo writes: “Although the artist’s brushstroke seems spontaneous, the paintings reveal a finely cultivated sense of composition, colour and spatial relationships. Her works invite us not to hurry and to accept ambiguity, leading us into a space of artistic contemplation that continues to unfold and open up for as long as the gaze lingers there.” At the event, the artist will discuss the exhibition’s works and answer questions from visitors. The exhibition catalogue will also be available. Admission is free. Ingūna Liepa’s exhibition “Searching for the Invisible” continues at the Rothko Museum until 29 November 2026.
