The opening conference of AI Week: “Safe AI: Impact and Responsibility”

AI offers an ever-growing range of possibilities, but how can we use it wisely and safely? What risks should we take into account, and how can we mitigate them? Who is responsible when AI makes a mistake? What is the role of people in a world where AI can do more and more? We’ll take a close look at these questions at the opening conference of AI Week.

On 18 November, we’ll bring experts and entrepreneurs together at the National Library of Estonia to discuss the safe and responsible use of AI and its wider impact. We’ll learn how to manage risks thoughtfully, what value AI creates for Estonia’s economy, and how it is changing our working culture and society more broadly.

During the day, we’ll address two major questions.

Part 1: How can we turn risks into opportunities?

The use of AI and awareness of its risks need to go hand in hand. Drawing on the TI-Hüpe risk analysis, we’ll discuss the risks associated with AI and ways to prevent and mitigate them. We’ll talk about privacy and cybersecurity, and consider how to preserve human decision-making authority and responsibility when using AI. The first half of the day will conclude with a panel discussion on the ethical and legal dilemmas of AI.

Part 2: What will the adoption of AI change in Estonia’s economy and society?

In the second half of the conference, we’ll look at how AI is changing the way companies work. Drawing on companies’ experiences and research findings, we’ll also examine how AI affects productivity, jobs, skills needs and Estonia’s competitiveness. We’ll discuss broader changes too: whether AI helps reduce or increase inequality, the role of major technology companies, and how to balance rapid technological development with responsible decisions.
