HAAPSALU – Safe Use of AI and Risk Mitigation

AI is a valuable assistant in everyday work, but how can you use it in a way that ensures reliable results and protects sensitive information? When is it worth turning to AI, and how can you do so wisely? In this practical workshop, we will explore how AI works and what opportunities it offers in different professions. We will learn to write better prompts, assess the reliability of AI-generated answers, and recognise situations where a seemingly convincing response may actually be misleading.

We will focus particularly on safety and responsibility: what information can be shared with AI; how to protect personal data and confidential information; and what you need to know about copyright and the rules governing the use of AI.

In the workshop, we will:
- explore how AI works, along with its capabilities and limitations;
- discover practical ways to use AI for different work tasks;
- learn to write clear and effective prompts to get better-quality answers;
- practise critically assessing AI-generated content and checking facts;
- discuss data protection, confidentiality, and key information security risks;
- learn about the principles of responsible AI use and the main legal requirements;
- analyse real-life workplace situations and discuss when using AI is sensible, risky, or best avoided;
- take away simple principles to help us use AI safely and thoughtfully in the future.

The workshop will be led by Mirjam Rätsep, who completed a master’s degree in the IT Faculty at TALTECH and has extensive professional experience in IT as an analyst and engineer.

The workshop combines clear explanations with practical examples. It is suitable both for beginners and for people who already have experience using AI.

The workshop will take place at Haapsalu Kultuurikeskus, in the Randlase Hall. Participation is free, but places are limited and registration is required. Please register early; we look forward to seeing you at the workshop.
