Peter von Kant is larger than life. A successful director lives with his assistant Karl, whom he enjoys abusing and humiliating. Actress Sidonie is also part of his inner circle, and she introduces Peter to Amir, an exotic young man. Now the mask of the self-centred artist falls away: blinded by love, Peter has only one aim—to care for Amir, offering him his home, his heart and success in the film world.
In this stylish adaptation of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant, the protagonists’ genders and professions have been changed. It is a tribute to the enfant terrible of German cinema. François Ozon’s birthday is on 15 November.
In Focus is Kai Art Center’s monthly film programme. In November, we turn the spotlight on the acclaimed French director François Ozon.

We also invite everyone to visit the solo exhibition “An Island Behind the Sea” by acclaimed artist Jane Jin Kaisen, now open at Kai Art Center. This captivating journey, comprising seven films, takes us deep into Korean traditions and history. Kaisen’s work is being shown in the Baltic states for the first time.
A combo ticket is available for €15 (€10 concession) when visiting the exhibition and attending the film screening on the same day. The gallery is open until 18:00, so combo ticket holders are asked to visit the exhibition before the screening begins.
