Piret Jaaks’s play “The Queen of the Night” is a tense story about the meeting of two very different people. Elli, who in her youth worked successfully as a singer at a famous opera house, must cope with life in Estonia after a tragic chain of events, witnessing her inevitable decline every day. The gripping story begins when Jakob, a young and handsome social worker, appears on Elli’s doorstep. A man known as the Honey Man has a mysterious role to play. Who is he? What is he up to, and what role does he have in Elli’s life? The answers may be surprising.
Through the example of two very different life stories, Piret Jaaks’s play speaks with both humour and tragedy about the clash and separation of feelings, thoughts and understandings, and the fear that one’s “best before” date has passed. It also asks what remains of us when we are no longer here.
Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes, with one interval. The theatre café is open before the performance and during the interval. Latecomers will not be admitted.
