Kukulečka Dance Ensemble Concert: A Homeland Story Written in Dance Over 35 Years

November is a special month for both Latvia and Poland—a time to honour the independence, national identity and cultural heritage of both countries. During this festive season, the folk dance ensemble “Kukulečka” will celebrate its 35th anniversary with the concert “A Homeland Story Written in Dance Over 35 Years”, taking place on 14 November at 15:00 at Daugavpils Kultūras pils.

For 35 years, the folk dance ensemble “Kukulečka” has been an important ambassador of Polish culture in Daugavpils and Latvia. The ensemble preserves and nurtures Polish cultural heritage, brings together dancers of different generations and, through its work, passes on to the younger generation respect for traditions, national values and Polish folklore. Over the years, the group has represented Daugavpils and Latvia at festivals, competitions, showcases and cultural events both in Latvia and abroad. Through dance and music, the ensemble fosters intercultural dialogue, strengthens friendship between peoples and builds connections between generations.

At the anniversary concert, dancers from different age groups will take the stage, presenting a colourful and moving programme. It will weave together Polish folk dance traditions, stories about homeland and independence, and memories of the ensemble’s artistic journey. The concert will also be a gathering for former and current members of the group to look back on the years gone by, honour the ensemble’s history and celebrate its artistic heritage.

The long-standing work of the ensemble’s founder, artistic director and choreographer, as well as the dancers’ passion, talent and commitment to Polish culture, have played an important role in the development of TDA “Kukulečka”. The anniversary shows that traditions live on when they are nurtured, passed down to future generations and carried forward with love.

The 35th-anniversary concert of TDA “Kukulečka” will be an important event for both the Polish community and the cultural life of Daugavpils. It will bring together the history and cultural heritage of Latvia and Poland, along with a sense of community, while affirming that the language of dance unites generations, strengthens national identity and helps preserve cultural diversity in Latvia.

The event is organised by the association “Centrum Kultury Polskiej”, the Daugavpils branch “Promeņ” of the Union of Poles in Latvia, and Juzefs Pilsudskis Daugavpils State Polish Gymnasium. The event is financially supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Riga, the Jan Olszewski Foundation “Aid to Poles in the East”, and Daugavpils City Municipality.
