During the event, the jury—which this year consists of Daina Sirmā (chair), Dace Rukšāne- Ščipčinska, Ilze Jansone, Dace Vīgante, Renāte Mālmane and Vilis Kasims—will select one laureate to represent Vidzeme at “Prose Readings 2026” in Riga. Special prizes will be presented by the magazine “Domuzīme”, the monthly magazine “Avīzes Nosaukums” and the literary magazine “Strāva”. The evening will be hosted by Lolita Tomsone, writer and director of the Žanis Lipke Memorial. Guitarist Mārcis Auziņš will perform. The Vidzemes Prose Readings tradition was started by the cultural centre “Siguldas devons”. The first Vidzemes Prose Readings took place in Sigulda, the second in Cēsis, and this year we will meet at Ogres Central Library. The “Vidzemes Prose Readings 2026” competition and writing education programme for authors from Vidzeme were organised by the cultural centre “Siguldas devons” in cooperation with the Latvian Writers’ Union, the “Prose Readings” festival and Sigulda Municipality Library. The closing event is organised by the cultural centre “Siguldas devons” in cooperation with Ogres Central Library. Financial support is provided by Sigulda Municipality, Ogre Municipality and VKKF. Financial support for the “Vidzemes Prose Readings 2026” competition and writing education programme for authors from Vidzeme was received through the “Vidzemes Culture Programme 2026”, implemented by the Vidzeme Planning Region under the State Culture Capital Foundation’s targeted programme “Development Programme for Latvia’s Historical Lands”. The event will be photographed and filmed. Photo: Edgars Semanis, Vidzemes Prose Readings 2025 in Cēsis.
