Magnus Kirt: The Comeback

Magnus Kirt grows up with his father’s teaching that hard work always beats talent and that work done will eventually be rewarded. Together they dream of Olympic gold, but then his father dies unexpectedly. The world’s top is still far away. At Magnus’s side is a childhood friend who knows nothing about javelin throwing, but they are bound by a promise he made to see what they started through to the end. Years of work begin to pay off. Magnus throws over 90 metres and becomes the world’s number one. At the World Championships in Doha, the title is just one throw away when, on his penultimate attempt, Magnus’s shoulder dislocates. A different kind of competition begins with the silver medal. Surgeries, recovery and ever-new injuries make the Olympic dream seem increasingly distant, but Magnus responds to every setback with even harder work. Just as his father taught him. What you start, you must see through to the end. But when the work brings no reward, not only his career is called into question, but also the entire belief on which he has built his life. What is a comeback when you can never return to who you were?
