On Wednesday, 4 November, at 16:00, an exhibition by artist Nellija Muižniece, “Time Filter,” will open in the User Services Department of Latgale Central Library (22A Rīgas Street, Daugavpils). The exhibition is a visual reflection on the inner world of people in the 21st century and its collision with a saturated, often chaotic information environment. At a time when personal experiences intertwine with the constant flow of news and social media content, the artist explores how to maintain emotional balance and preserve one’s identity.

The title “Time Filter” has several meanings. It symbolises the desire to protect oneself from the harshness of the outside world, seek inner harmony, and at the same time recognise how the media and social media algorithms shape our perceptions of reality. It also speaks to the ability to find beauty, light and aesthetics amid the abundance of everyday information and impressions.

The artist conveys her ideas through expressive oil painting, dynamic acrylic techniques and experimental mixed-media approaches. The textures, layers of colour and scratches in the paintings reflect the density of contemporary information and the complexity of people’s inner experiences. Colour becomes an emotional means of expression, prompting viewers to consider what personal “filter” they use to perceive the world around them.

Nellija Muižniece (1983) was born in Krāslava. She studied art at Rēzekne Art Secondary School and Daugavpils University, where she received a professional master’s degree in art, specialising in painting, in 2024. She also pursued further studies in the Textile Art Department of the Art Academy of Latvia. Since 2002, she has participated in group exhibitions, including at the Rothko Museum and the Latvian Artists’ Union Gallery. Since 2020, she has also held solo exhibitions and taken part in art plein-air events and workshops. Her artistic style is characterised by experimentation with different techniques and textures, and emotionally rich use of colour.

At “Time Filter,” visitors are invited not only to discover the artist’s distinctive style, but also to reflect on their own relationship with the information environment, their perception of reality and the ways to maintain inner peace in today’s fast-paced world.
