The exhibition “White Gold: The Story of Estonian Porcelain” has been open at the Estonian History Museum’s Maarjamäe Castle since 30 October 2026. It explores the history of Estonia’s porcelain industry. The exhibition is accompanied by a series of lectures in which experts discuss the story of Estonian porcelain from different perspectives. At the lecture on Saturday, 13 March 2027, exhibition curator Anne Ruussaar will speak about the legendary Langebraun.
Items decorated at the legendary Nikolai Langebraun porcelain factory have been part of everyday Estonian culture for nearly a century. Although the company did not manufacture porcelain, its decoration holds a significant place in the history of Estonian applied art and design. Its search for a distinctive style resulted in eclectic output reflecting the kitsch of the period, high-level hand painting and stylised national ornaments. The lecture traces the company’s history, introduces its owners and decorators, and surveys its products, best-known patterns and marks.
Come and discover the background to one of the most fascinating chapters in Estonian design history. The lecture takes place in the fireplace room at Maarjamäe Castle and begins at 13:00. A lecture ticket also includes independent admission to the exhibition at Maarjamäe Castle.
