On 3 November, as part of Nordic Days, the “Liepāja Future Neighbourhoods Challenge” will conclude, and the best concepts for developing urban areas will be awarded. This is an unprecedented initiative by the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia, aimed at finding solutions for undeveloped areas in regional cities. This year, 60 architecture students from four Latvian universities are taking part.
At the closing event, anyone interested is invited to watch the architecture students’ idea presentations, with prior registration required. The student teams’ idea presentations (pitch sessions) will be opened by Gunārs Ansiņš, Chair of the Liepāja City Council, and Nina Hvīda Enevoldsen, Director of the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia. Former Copenhagen City Architect Tina Saaby will also take part.
The highlight of the event will be participants working in teams to develop ideas for specific places in Liepāja across three thematic areas: 1. Attractive, green public spaces for living; 2. Energy solutions for buildings and urban neighbourhoods; 3. Bringing industrial areas back into the life of the city.
The best ideas will be awarded, and all of them will become part of a vision for the climate-neutral and sustainable development of Liepāja. Entry is by prior registration only (places are limited): here.
The initiative is implemented in cooperation with Liepāja Municipality and Liepāja businesses: SIA Northside Business Park and SIA Kursas Kvartāls.
