Island | Liepājas teātris

“I want to offer audiences the experience of a ‘blank page’—leaving only the title as the first impulse. Because that is where everything begins. Why explain a poem before it has been experienced? Why take away the audience’s space to discover and reflect? Why give them a crossword puzzle that has already been solved? An island can be personal and public, unreachable and constantly present all at once. It can be a physical place, but also a state, a distance, a boundary. An island for me, an island for you, an island for us. Flee or stay put?” / The creative core of Renāte Kērda’s work has always been focused on life and human existence in all their absurdity and paradoxical nature. In her work, she reflects social phenomena and processes with wit and sensitivity. Her productions are also described as life-affirming, playful, provocative, incisive and visually rich. Those who have seen Kērda’s productions know they can be wild, astonishingly multilayered, evoke a wide range of emotions and speak to people of different social backgrounds and ages.
