At Christmas time, music becomes a bearer of light and comfort—it brings people together, awakens memories, prompts reflection and offers hope. Yet not every piece that embodies warmth, quiet or joy becomes a symbol of Christmas. Why do some melodies become an indispensable part of the holiday season, while others, though equally moving, remain in the shadows? Pianist Andrejs Osokins invites audiences to explore this question in his new concert programme, “Classical Christmas.”
The programme brings together classical masterpieces that naturally suit the mood of winter and the festive season, as well as familiar Christmas songs from Latvia and around the world, arranged for piano. The concert will feature sacred works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s dramatic and radiant fantasies, and Claude Debussy’s depictions of winter. For this programme, Andrejs Osokins has also included works by Latvian composers evoking the mood of winter, as well as music by George Gershwin that embodies the joy and carefree spirit of New Year celebrations.
The pianist’s commentary will run throughout the concert, offering insight into the history of the pieces, their moods and the inexplicable mystery that makes certain music Christmas music. Tickets: www.bilesuparadize.lv
