Join us at Käina Library for a meeting with the brilliant and talented poet, publicist and choreographer Sveta Grigorjeva. Sveta began writing for the magazines Värske Rõhk and Vikerkaar. Her 2013 debut collection, “Kes kardab Sveta Grigorjevat?” (“Who’s Afraid of Sveta Grigorjeva?”), sparked much discussion in the literary world. At the time, critic Silvia Urgas wrote that Grigorjeva sees beyond herself, dares to address subjects many do not reach, and does so in language that is both masterful and simple. She has since published the poetry collections “American beauty”, “Frankenstein” and “Feminist”, the essay collection “Kliitor on anarhist” (“The Clitoris Is an Anarchist”), and, recently, her first work of prose, “Harilik kosmos” (“Ordinary Space”). In Sveta’s work, words and movement go hand in hand. She is an active dancer and performing artist who directs productions in Estonia and abroad. Her work is characterised by bold self-expression and social sensitivity. For her work, she has received the Estonian Theatre Union’s Dance Award, the Jaan Kross Literary Award and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia’s annual award. After earning a master’s degree in choreography at Tallinn University, Sveta studied in Nice and earned a second master’s degree at the University of Giessen in Germany. She is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Come listen and exchange ideas—we look forward to seeing you!
