Kristīne Kligina: “Sea Notes” | Sigulda New Castle

Kristīne Kligina’s exhibition “Sea Notes” is on view in the salon of Sigulda New Castle. “Sea Notes” is a story about looking again, the passage of time, and change in what seems familiar. The exhibition grew out of observing the same landscape over an extended period. In summer, while staying by the sea, each day began and ended with a walk along the shore. The view was familiar, yet never the same: the light, colours, water, sky and atmosphere changed, and so did the observer. This experience inspired a series of small-format paintings—a visual diary in which each work captures a specific moment. Over the course of the exhibition, precise observation gradually gives way to expressive, intuitive painting. The sea is no longer merely a landscape motif, but becomes a measure of time and perception. At the heart of “Sea Notes” is not the sea itself, but the act of looking—the relationship between the familiar and the unpredictable, observation and transformation, reality and painting. Kristīne Kligina graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, earning a master’s degree in painting and a bachelor’s degree in textile art. She founded the art space “Vieta Nr. 6” and is an art teacher at Sigulda School of Arts “Baltais flīģelis”. Since 2018, the artist has held 23 solo exhibitions and taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Latvia and abroad. Kristīne Kligina’s exhibition “Sea Notes” is on view in the salon of Sigulda New Castle from 18 September to 8 November. Admission to the exhibition is included in the Sigulda New Castle admission price, and the exhibition is open during the castle’s opening hours.
