The tour explores the exhibition through the eyes of a ceramic artist, drawing parallels between the past and the present. It is followed by a workshop in which participants paint a decorative tile. Following the great interest and positive feedback from the previous workshop, we are holding it again in collaboration with Külli Kõiv!
Mikkeli Museum’s exhibition “Delft Blue. Ceramic Treasures from a Private Collection” focuses on Delft ceramics from the 17th to the 19th century, taking visitors on a fascinating journey through time. On the tour, we will view the exhibition through the eyes of a ceramic artist and draw parallels between historical and contemporary ceramics—from materials and production processes to motifs and their uses. As we explore the collection, we will also discuss the factors that encouraged the development of blue-and-white ceramics in Delft, as well as the masters who worked there. We will take a closer look at the motifs decorating the ceramics, their origins and symbolism.
In the workshop following the tour, participants can design and paint a decorative tile inspired by Delft motifs. It will later be fired in a ceramic kiln.
