On 3 December, you can see the performance “Love That Won’t Let Go” at Daugavpils Theatre. The Tbilisi Theatre Centre is visiting Latvia with “Love That Won’t Let Go”, an English comedy in two acts based on Noël Coward’s play “Blithe Spirit”, directed by Avtandil Varsimašvili. It is a bright, witty and mildly mystical comedy in which reality intertwines in an unusual way with the supernatural, creating an engaging and atmospheric theatrical experience.
“Blithe Spirit” is one of Noël Coward’s best-known plays. In 1941, it had 1,997 performances, setting a national record. The work combines the lightness of high-society comedy with elements of mysticism, making the performance both entertaining and intriguing.
One day, successful writer Charles Condomine decides to hold a small séance at home to observe a medium at work and describe it in his new novel. The medium, Madame Arcati, accidentally summons the spirit of Charles’s first wife, Elvira, who immediately begins to clash with both her former husband and his new wife. The performance raises the question: does love really never let go? And is it possible to live with the past—even when it returns in the form of a ghost?
