After a successful premiere and sold-out evenings, Jumprava’s concert story “Arheoloģija” continues its journey around Latvia this autumn. This spring saw the premiere of the band’s new concert programme, offering audiences an unusual opportunity to explore Jumprava’s work from a different perspective: alongside well-known songs, it also reveals less-heard pieces and personal, sometimes surprising stories about how they came about.
On 14 November, “Arheoloģija” comes to the Valka Municipality Culture Centre, and on 21 November to Daugavpils Kultūras pils.
The “Arheoloģija” programme brings the four members of Jumprava together on stage—three Aigarses and Ainars. It is an evening of candid conversations, memories and humour, returning to a time when equipment had a mind of its own, ideas came in bursts and the world was not yet digital. The music is performed in a semi-acoustic, more intimate sound, offering a fresh way to hear both familiar songs and pieces that are performed less often. The evening’s rhythm is shaped not only by music, but also by conversations with the audience and unpredictable moments that give each performance its own character.
“Jumprava. Arheoloģija” is a musical expedition through the band’s creative history, exploring the stories behind the songs: how they came about, the chance events and creative searches that accompanied them, and how the musicians themselves have changed over time. Alongside well-known hits, it features less-heard pieces, surprising events, setbacks, humour and personal memories. “Arheoloģija” is not a “greatest hits” collection, but a chance to see Jumprava up close and rediscover why the band’s music still matters to several generations of listeners.
After the spring premiere, Jumprava members shared their impressions of the evening. Aigars Grāvers said: “What can I say? I hadn’t expected such a great evening.” Ainars Ašmanis highlighted how pleased both the audience and the musicians were: “I think that, after a long time, an event really went well. Friends and acquaintances liked it a lot, and so did I. I remembered my youth—so much had already slipped my mind. It turned out unexpectedly well.” Aigars Krēsla also commented on the concert’s distinctive format: “I feel very good about it. We had an unusually wide scope for improvisation during the conversation section, which doesn’t usually happen at our concerts, so we could only guess how it would turn out. I think in the end it went exactly as we had planned. Thank you to the audience for your warm response and participation.” Aigars Grauba added: “Optimism, inspiration and emotion in 100% pure form!”
