Have you noticed the photographs on the walls of the café on Fotografiska’s 1st floor? Did you know they don’t end up there by chance? Where visitors may previously have seen various displays or extensions of Fotografiska’s major exhibitions, since September the walls have featured a new part of the exhibition programme called Fotografiska Community Gallery. The Community Gallery is a space for photography projects that speak to our times, fresh perspectives and stories by local and international authors.
The gallery’s inaugural exhibition is “My Story Is…”—a series of exhibitions by photography students and alumni of Pallas University of Applied Sciences, which began in 2023. At its heart are personal stories, often kept hidden, which the artists explore through family photography.
The afternoon of Saturday, 21 November is a good time to slow down at the Fotografiska café, take a look at the walls and listen to exhibition curator Kaisa Eiche reflect on family photographs, as well as photography as a means of shaping identity, remembering and creating a sense of belonging. Can photography help us understand how we have learned to love, remember and belong?
– The podcast recording will take place in the hall on the 1st floor, in the Fotografiska Community Gallery.
– The conversation will be in Estonian.
– Please allow for the possibility that the conversation may run a little over its scheduled time—engaging conversations don’t always fit neatly into a time slot.
– The exhibition “My Story Is…” is in the café and hall on Fotografiska’s 1st floor and does not require a separate ticket.
– For a fuller experience, we recommend purchasing a museum ticket as well, so you can visit Fotografiska’s other exhibitions before or after.
– Both the hall and the exhibitions are easily accessible. You can also use the lift to move between floors if needed or preferred.

PallasFoto group exhibition “My Story Is…”, 27 September – 29 November 2026
A family photograph is not merely a memory, but also a staging: it records selected moments, shapes ideas of belonging and continuity, and often leaves out the life beyond the frame. The works in this exhibition occupy the space between what is visible and what remains hidden. Drawing on personal experience, the artists use photography as a means of self-examination, opening up relationships and stories that often have no place in a traditional family album.

Fotografiska Community Gallery
Community Gallery is part of Fotografiska’s exhibition programme. It gives fresh photography projects space in the museum’s 1st-floor café area and an opportunity to appear on Fotografiska’s walls and reach a wider audience. Community Gallery exhibitions are always free to visitors.
We welcome submissions from local and international creators—professional photographers, emerging artists and photography enthusiasts—with a story, perspective or idea that deserves to be seen. We accept proposals for the Community Gallery walls throughout the year, and the next available exhibition period will open in autumn 2027. The deadline for this round is 19 August 2027, World Photography Day.
