Monthly Production | American Latvians | Liepājas teātris

The play’s protagonist is adopted as a teenager by a family in the US. She goes from an orphanage in Latvia to the dreamland of America. Yet however idyllic life may be in a small American town, and however kind her adoptive family may be, her search for a sense of belonging is far from over. This search leads her to a World Latvian camp, where Latvians from all over the world gather to strengthen their Latvian roots. There she enters the world of American Latvians, which is entirely different from the world her adoptive family took her from. The play tells of the Latvian community in America: of a life in which its members are US citizens like everyone else, and of the world in which they are Latvians, and the significance Latvian identity has in this community.
