SŪNIŅA’S JOURNEY HOME
About the courage to leave and the strength to return
Age: 5+
Duration: 50 min
In a forest where tree branches whisper secrets and little lights show the way at dusk, small forest spirits live. They bustle about, help one another and prepare for autumn. Sūniņa, a forest spirit who is curious, stubborn and independent, is convinced she can do everything on her own. But working alone gets her nowhere: her house is built in an unsafe place, and one morning Sūniņa’s world collapses along with the old pine tree. Homeless and with a wounded heart, she sets off and encounters fear, cold and uncertainty, but also kindness, warmth and friendship. She spends the winter with the Goat, learns that trusting others and asking for help are signs of strength, not weakness, and that the world grows brighter when we work together.
In spring, Sūniņa returns home to her own people, changed—calmer and more open. Then something even more important happens: she is able to forgive the person who once destroyed her home, and persuades her friends to join together to help a woodcutter who has fallen on hard times.
This is a story about courage born not of stubborn isolation, but of the ability to cooperate, understand and empathise.
