Linguistics Workshop: “The Sea Whispered, the Sea Roared”

In Liepāja, as along the entire Latvian coast, people use the word “jūra” (sea). But other familiar words include “jūŗa,” “jūriņš,” “dižjūra,” “lieljūra,” and others. Participants will have the opportunity to explore vocabulary related to the sea and port, distinctive features of Liepāja speech, maritime terms, and place names. There will be hands-on work with texts and vocabulary cards. The linguistics workshop will be led by Daiga Straupeniece. Advance registration is required: 26485926
