Stand out—don’t look like everyone else! Why buy a mass-produced plastic mask in a shop when you can create your own unique look? Join our creative workshop, where we’ll blend ancient Latvian ķekatu traditions with a modern Halloween spirit. We’ll make one-of-a-kind masks from natural and recycled materials, each with its own character and story!
Time: We start at 11:00 and work at an easy pace until the work is finished and the look is ready!
Location: Lielvārde, co-working space.
For: Children, young people, families, and anyone who wants to express their creativity.
What will we do?
Find inspiration: We’ll recall the power of our own ķekatu and budēļi traditions—how our ancestors used tree bark, straw, and hides to transform themselves into other characters. We’ll combine this with Halloween mystique and modern imagination.
Experiment with materials: We’ll combine nature’s treasures (tree bark, moss, pinecones, chestnuts, dry branches, and leaves) with recycled materials (cardboard, fabric scraps, yarn, and sturdy packaging).
Create our own masterpiece: Everyone will make a completely unique mask that no one else will have.
What to bring: The organisers will provide basic materials, glue, and tools, but we also invite you to bring natural finds from the forest or unusual cardboard packaging from home.
Come and prove that a look you create yourself can be a hundred times more effective, sustainable, and eye-catching than a plastic mask bought in a shop! Participation is free!
