The film’s protagonist, Morten, cannot find his place at school. Exclusion and pressure from his classmates make him ask, with increasing anguish, where he belongs and who he really is. When two girls enter Morten’s life—Miia, who is involved in street art, and Emilie, a mysterious girl from the bog—he finds himself between two worlds: everyday reality and the mystical, the city and the bog, first feelings and painful choices.
Told with warmth and understanding, “Morten” combines a sensitive portrayal of young people’s inner lives with social awareness and a mystical dimension. It is a compelling film about self-discovery, the pain of being invisible, friendship and first feelings—and the courage to remain yourself even when the world around you makes it far from easy.
“Morten” is based on the award-winning book “Morten, Emilie ja kadunud maailmad” by writer Reeli Reinaus. Tõru Kannimäe (“Fränk”) stars in the title role. Other important roles are played by Helena Maria Reisner (“Seltsimees laps”) and Emili Rohumaa, with Külli Teetamm, Andres Mähar, Priit Loog and others also appearing.
