A world of memory, myths and magic

In November, a very special exhibition comes to Fotografiska. Lebohang Kganye (born 1990) is an internationally recognised South African artist who gives photography a new dimension by creating spatial narratives and life-size worlds from images. Her approach is entirely her own, her artistic style among the most compelling, and her work is centred on the layered stories of postcolonial history.

At the exhibition „Le Sale ka Kgotso“ at Fotografiska, visitors step into a spatial world. The stories draw on South African folklore, while recurring motifs and beliefs familiar around the world show how stories from cultures that seem different at first glance can grow from surprisingly similar fears, warnings and imaginings.

Artist-led tour

On the exhibition tour, discover its layers of meaning together with the artist. The tour is informal and takes place in a small group—just the right size to move comfortably among the installations. The artist’s way of exploring both her art and South African folklore and culture is something well worth experiencing. If you are fascinated by folklore, notice similarities with your own cultural background, are interested in experimental art techniques, or would like to learn more about the South African art and cultural scene, we encourage you to join the conversation or ask questions.

– The tour is in English and takes place in the exhibition gallery on the 3rd floor of Fotografiska.
– You can use the lift to move between floors if needed or preferred.
– Please note that the tour may sometimes run a little over its scheduled time—engaging conversations do not always fit neatly into the allotted time.
– Visitors under 16 can attend the tour free of charge. Free tickets are available from the ticket office.
