A 45-year-old man, parent, ex-spouse, addict, member of the Estonian Defence League, financially foolish, technophobe... When Märt put together his first stand-up show, “40,” at the age of 40 and toured it successfully across Estonia (and briefly abroad) with its honest, personal material, he thought he might give it another try at 50. But here we are: Märt Avandi stand-up “45” is a reality. It’s surprising how much can happen in five years. Even when you think you’re experienced, have seen it all, and would like to think of yourself as a sensible person. You might have expected everything inside and around you to grow calmer. It doesn’t. Fortunately, the desire to look at your life with humour hasn’t disappeared. Nor has the desire to analyse your flaws, worries and mistakes with complete honesty. Because if anything is worth laughing at, it’s yourself.
On stage: Märt Avandi
Text: Märt Avandi, Paul Piik
Märt’s new stand-up show “45” premieres on 15 October at Fotografiska and aims to reach all the major cities and county centres before its protagonist turns 46.
