A 45-year-old man, a parent, an ex-spouse, an addict, a member of the Estonian Defence League, bad with money, a technophobe... When Märt performed his first stand-up show, “40,” at the age of 40, he toured it successfully across Estonia—and briefly abroad—with its honest, personal material. He thought he might try again when he turned 50. But here we are: Märt Avandi’s stand-up show “45” is a reality. It’s surprising how much can happen in five years. Even when you think you’re experienced, have seen it all, and would like to think you’re sensible. You might expect everything inside and around you to get calmer and calmer. It doesn’t. Fortunately, the desire to look at life with humour hasn’t gone anywhere. Nor has the desire to honestly examine one’s vices, worries, and mistakes. Because if anything is worth laughing about, it’s yourself.
