A performance focused on senses other than sight
“The Hero of a Thousand Faces” is not a conventional theatre performance to watch quietly while seated. Nor is it a dramatisation or stage adaptation of Joseph Campbell’s work. It is a sensory journey in which hearing, touch and body memory take precedence over sight. The actors share the space with the audience: you can hear them and sense their presence, but the performance itself takes place within and between the participants.
All participants wear blindfolds and headphones, making the journey personal and guided. In this darkness, it is possible to remain completely anonymous and, at the same time, learn unexpectedly much about a complete stranger—and yourself. This is an echo chamber where you can physically experience the benefits and drawbacks of the information age: time and space take on a new dimension, smartphones become useless, and notifications become touches. In this “safe discomfort”, it is possible to reach the next level, where nothing is quite as it was before. But when did everything change?
Please note: The performance takes place largely with headphones and blindfolds, and wearing them is a condition of participation. The safety and privacy of the audience are ensured during the performance. Suitable for ages 15 and up.
Before attending, read the audience guide.
