The Hero with a Thousand Faces

A performance focused on senses other than sight

“The Hero with a Thousand Faces” is not a conventional theatre performance to sit and watch quietly. Nor is it a dramatization or stage adaptation of Joseph Campbell’s work. It is a sensory journey in which hearing, touch and body memory take the place of sight. The actors share the space with the audience: you can hear them and sense their presence, but the performance itself takes place within and between the participants. All participants wear blindfolds and headphones so that the journey is personal and guided.

In this darkness, it is possible to remain completely anonymous while unexpectedly learning a great deal about a stranger—and yourself. This is an echo chamber where you can physically experience the pros and cons of the information age: where time and space take on a new dimension, smartphones become useless, and notifications become touches. In this “safe discomfort,” it is possible to reach the next level, where nothing is quite as it was before. But when did everything change?

Please note: The performance takes place largely with headphones and blindfolds on, and wearing them is a condition of participation. The theatre audience’s safety and privacy during the performance are ensured. Suitable for ages 15 and up.
